Tesla Launches First EV Supercharger Station in India at BKC, Mumbai
Tesla’s Formal Entry into India’s Electric Vehicle Charging Market
Mumbai, August 4, 2025 — In a significant move towards electrifying India’s automobile sector, Tesla Inc. is set to inaugurate its first EV Supercharger station in the country at One BKC, Mumbai. The launch marks the company’s official debut in India’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure, reinforcing its long-term commitment to sustainable mobility in one of the world’s largest emerging markets.
State-of-the-Art Charging Infrastructure with Competitive Pricing
The BKC station includes a dual charging setup featuring:
- 4 V4 Superchargers offering up to 250 kW DC fast charging at ₹24 per kWh
- 4 Tesla Destination Chargers (AC) delivering 11 kW charging at ₹14 per kWh
Tesla claims that a 15-minute charge on its Supercharger can provide a range boost of up to 267 kilometers for the Model Y—sufficient for five round trips between Mumbai Airport and the Gateway of India.
Free Home Wall Connector Installation for Tesla Customers
As part of a broader customer-centric EV ecosystem, Tesla will provide complimentary installation of its home wall connectors to all new vehicle buyers in India. This step aims to simplify at-home charging and create a seamless electric mobility experience for Indian consumers.
Strategic Expansion Plan Across Major Metros
The BKC Supercharger is the first of eight stations Tesla plans to open across the country in Phase 1. Upcoming locations include:
- Mumbai: Lower Parel, Navi Mumbai, Thane
- Delhi NCR: Aerocity, Saket, Gurugram, Noida
This expansion is expected to significantly boost Tesla’s EV charging network and support its push for broader EV adoption in India.
Tesla’s Experience Centre and Vehicle Rollout
Tesla previously opened its first Indian Experience Centre at BKC in mid-July 2025, coinciding with the launch of the Model Y EV. Deliveries are expected in Q3 2025.
Despite high import duties of nearly 70%, the Model Y has garnered attention in the premium EV segment. Indian pricing is as follows:
