Mira Road: The world has gone digital. But people are falling prey to online fraud these days. In one such incident, people were cheated online and money was stolen. The Bhiwandi police arrested the accused. The gang’s modus operandi was to target gullible people. In this case, more than 4 accused were identified. The police are investigating them. Some were arrested, and police officer Rahul Chavan gave details. In this case, 28 mobile phones and Rs 4 lakh cash were seized.
People were buying mobile phones online but weren’t getting them. Also, money was being deducted from their bank accounts. The accused were using fake apps like CRED, MPariVahan, Fake UI, Adult Chat.Apk to target people via bogus links. Citizens were getting OTPs on their mobile phones via O.T.P. hacking, and mobile phones were being bought online. The accused were then selling these phones to others and cheating them. The Bhayander police were informed about this. The complainant had given details of the fraud to the Bhiwandi police. Later, a case was registered. Police officer Rahul Chavan took cognizance of the case and action was taken.
Details of citizens being cheated:
In this case, the accused got citizens’ mobile numbers and IMEI numbers through app links, then did call forwarding, SMS forwarding, viewed SMS, SMS/UPI Pin Grabber, View logged-in Gmail, Contact List Access, Call Log Access, Secure login+ Change password, etc. They took OTPs and other account details of citizens. Later, citizens’ accounts were hacked, and mobile phones were bought online from e-commerce companies. Mobile phones were sold to others, and citizens were cheated.
